Find the perfect baby knitting pattern for your special little one
Baby knitting sweater patterns can be challenging for the new knitter. Although the actual required knitting stitches may be basic, just thinking about making sleeves and necklines can throw the new knitter off balance in a hurry. In all honesty, a baby sweater should probably not be your first knitting project but here are some suggestions for when you do knit your first baby sweater.
When following a typical baby knitting sweater pattern, you start out with the main part of the sweater which is not hard to do. Next you move on to shaping the sleeves and alternately working on the right and left front sides of the sweater if the sweater opens in the front. This is where your challenges may begin. If you have a knitting partner who is more experienced, this is a great time to have them close by so that they can make suggestions or demonstrate how to do the techniques easily and properly.
If you don’t have a partner, you’re still okay because on the Internet you can now find a lot of videos that demonstrate different knitting techniques. So, if you do get stuck while working on your baby sweater, you can find help as close as your nearest computer screen. Although watching a screen demonstration is sometimes hard to figure out, many of the knitting help videos are actually very well done.
Each type of baby knitting sweater is different. Some open in the front, others in the back while still others are pullover sweaters that go on over the head. Some sweaters have hoods. Some use single colors while others use stripes or various color patterns. Each technique involves a bit of a learning curve.
For your first sweater, try to pick a baby knitting sweater pattern that uses basic stitches and doesn’t have a lot of extra steps to take. Choose one with minimal or no decorations so you won’t also have to figure out how to do those. Above all, accept the fact that your sweater won’t be perfect – handmade items never are. That’s one of the things that makes them so unique. Once you have successfully knit your first baby sweater you will have the confidence to tackle something more challenging.
