Find the perfect baby knitting pattern for your special little one
Choosing a baby sweater pattern can be a lot of fun as you think about the tiny little individual who will get to wear your creation. In fact, finding the perfect pattern could take the rest of your life if you let it. There are so many wonderful choices available. Here are some of the basic options you will find.
1. Pullovers
Pullover sweaters are fairly easy to knit and can usually be worked in one piece. Most patterns will leave a small slit in the back of the sweater so that it can easily fit over baby’s head. They can be changed by varying color or knitting design. If you don’t want to deal with adding button holes, this is a great type of sweater to try.
2. Cardigans
Cardigan sweaters open in the front with either buttons or a zipper although some cardigans have open fronts. Wool or cotton are the most common materials used for these sweaters. This makes them comfortable all year round. A V-neck is most commonly used. You will need to use buttonhole techniques in most patterns. Try using a chunky knit yarn for a more modern look.
A shorter variation of a cardigan is a baby shrug. Basically, it’s a sweater that is worn over the shoulders to keep baby warm. It opens in the front and is easy to put on and take off.
3. Hooded Sweaters
Hooded sweaters are a great option for babies to wear if they’re going to be outdoors in the wind or cold. These are a little more involved to knit.
4. Special Occasion Sweaters
You can find baby sweater patterns for wearing to church on Sunday. Other patterns are created especially for occasions such as a christening or Easter Sunday. These involve more frills and intricate knitting techniques.
5. Do Your Own Thing.
You can create a sweater with a matching hat and/or leggings. Some sweater patterns come with different variations and the option to add additional accessories. Sweaters for boys may add stripes of color whereas those for girls use a single color. Keep your eyes open for creative one-of-a-kind sweaters because your baby sweater pattern choices are limited only by your imagination.
